After the bloody people’s uprising of the students and citizens and the fall of the fascist regime, Dr. Mohammad Yunus, the only Nobel laureate of Bangladesh, took charge of the land known as Bangladesh, in solidarity with the demands of the student and public movement.
Since the formation of the interim government, forces associated with the defeated fascism, who fled after their downfall, have been conspiring against the country. They are trying every day to create unrest and become obstacles to the democratic progress of future Bangladesh. If we do not understand the reasons behind these conspiracies and think of a quick remedy, the taste of freedom won through the people’s movement may instantly turn into bitterness.
First, we need to understand why this conspiracy exists and who the conspirators are.
According to Newton's Third Law, every action has an equal and opposite reaction, whether the action is good or bad. The fall of the fascist government did not happen through a natural process; the fascist stage that the previous government had built over 15 years was not the result of Sheikh Hasina's efforts alone. Many domestic and foreign powers played a role in building this stage. Therefore, this severe defeat is not only Hasina's but also her allies'. Naturally, they will respond to the revolution, and this is expected.
We must remember that the rise of fascism did not happen overnight, nor was it the sole effort of Sheikh Hasina. She used all the constitutional frameworks, laws, judiciary, and administration as tools to prolong this fascism for 15 years. The heads of all these sectors have become wealthy in terms of money and power, yet they did not flee nor could they. Even now, more than 80% of these sectors are controlled by the spirits of Hasina's legacy.
In electoral terms, about 35% of the population supports the Awami League in Bangladesh. Let’s assume that this figure has decreased to 30% due to the regime's authoritarian exploitation. After August 5, maybe 5% of people left the country, so what will happen to the remaining 25% of Awami League supporters? Will they be expelled or will they remain?
Hasina's international allies in fascism were India, to whom she gave everything but her sari just to remain in power. After Hasina fled the country, India provided refuge to her, which is something we must keep in mind. While the revolutionary people of Bangladesh consider Hasina a murderer and a dictator, India views her as the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and a dear and intimate friend. If we put it this way, it would not be wrong to say that Hasina exploited Bangladesh as India's Prime Minister.
Hasina had many dealings with India that did not concern the people of Bangladesh. Therefore, India wants Hasina to return to Bangladesh at any cost. However, this rehabilitation process is not going to be easy, and India knows it. The first plan of the fascist forces, along with India, is to destabilize the country and convince the people that Hasina’s significance is paramount while undermining Yunus' government. To accomplish this, the most crucial card is to sow discord among communities or disrupt communal harmony, a card that has been used by the opposition parties, under India's guidance, to corner Hasina’s government for the past 15 years.
The second plan is to create a situation similar to 1/11, where the military would be pitted against the revolutionary people.
These forces, including India, are actively playing their roles in implementing these plans. Among the most dangerous issues is the role of ISKCON. For the past 15 years, Hasina trained ISKCON in fascism. The statements of ISKCON gurus clearly reveal their allegiance to Hasina.
After the arrest of ISKCON guru Chinmoy Krishna Das last Sunday, incidents like chanting “Jai Shri Ram” during attacks in Chattogram courts, the murder of the state’s lawyer Alif, mosque vandalization, rallies with India’s controversial "Jai Shri Ram" slogan, and direct Indian interference in a treason case are some of the issues that require calm, thoughtful consideration before we decide on our actions.
If we don’t take a well-thought-out approach, these issues might shatter the dreams of revolutionaries.
We must remember that 16 years of authoritarianism will not vanish in 3 months or 3 years. Therefore, we must show patience in all respects, work together, and analyze the past and future events calmly, and move forward in constructing a just, democratic Bangladesh while combating the fascist forces.
